About

Hello, I'm Aurora Robathan-Wu, a high school senior from the San Francisco Bay Area. This summer (2021), I came across an interview with a North Korean defector that deeply moved me. I continued to research conditions in North Korea, shocked that I had not learned about the horrors North Koreans experience under the Kim dictatorship. It disturbed me enough to take on illustrating defectors' stories and individual experiences with a vague plan to publish or display them somewhere to spread this information among my peers. Subsequently, I decided to build this website to do so. I chose illustration to convey this information because visual information has a greater lasting impact on our minds than abstract words.

Please let me know (at nknarratives@gmail.com) if you'd like hard copies of the illustrations and accompanying narratives, suitable for posting, to support any of your own work on behalf of North Koreans.

Here is a short list of organizations focused on North Korean policies, education about North Korea,  the welfare of defectors and the subjects of the Kim dictatorship. If you are associated with, or are aware of other similarly focused organizations, please email me the links and I will post them here.
