forbidden radio

Some reports say that North Korean households are required to have a radio that can’t be turned off which only plays a constant stream of propaganda. While this isn't proven, this may be the case for some households or in some areas. Still, it is a fact that radio is strictly censored so that only North Korean channels are available. Despite the censorship, people are able to get forbidden items such as radios that connect to South Korean channels, USB’s with downloaded movies, bootleg DVD’s from the black market, and media players. When consuming this media, people must take extreme measures to ensure they won’t be caught. They close the curtains, turn off the lights, cover their bodies and media player with a blanket. If caught, they face years of prison where they are forced to do hard labor while on a starvation diet, and may be tortured or executed.
