something delicious

Without access to the internet, any social media, non-North Korean radio or television, and constant propaganda, North Koreans are forbidden from knowing what the rest of the world is like. North Koreans aren’t allowed to listen to music from anywhere but North Korea, where only classical music or propagandist songs are played. So, USBs are the gateway to the outside world. They are discreet, can be password protected and are easily destroyed. Most commonly, USBs hold foreign movies. They can be bought at the market with a code such as “do you have anything delicious today?” The government impresses upon North Koreans that they live in the wealthiest, happiest country while the rest of the world suffers. This worldview is challenged by what is seen in foreign films and leads to the questioning of the North Korean regime. Just watching a foreign film is punished by seven to eight years of prison and hard labor, torture, or even execution. Comparatively, the punishment for murder is rarely execution.
